Are you ready for love? Well Bestival, you’d better be as our Sunday headliner is no doubt going to demand that you are.
Bestival HQ is just a little overcome and unbelievably proud to announce that the iconic Rocket Man himself Elton John is making his way to join us this September, for what will be his first ever UK festival performance.
For over five decades Sir Elton Hercules John has been at the very heart of pop music, responsible for more hits, chart smashes, classic recordings and magical moments than any other artist, his music encapsulating and defining every decade since his debut single “I’ve Been Loving You” in 1968.
His prolific output saw him release an album in virtually every year of the seventies, albums filled with songs like ‘Rocket Man’, ‘Your Song’, ‘Tiny Dancer’, ‘Crocodile Rock’, ‘Bennie and the Jets’, ‘Song for Guy’ the list goes on and on and he’s never really stopped since, owning the eighties with tracks like ‘I Guess That’s Why They Call it The Blues’, ‘Nikita’ and ‘Sacrifice’ while the nineties saw his musical genius win him an academy award for ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ from the Lion King and compose the award winning score to Aida.
The new century started with somewhat of a renaissance as Elton released Songs from the West Coast, an album that put him back at the top of the world’s charts before a little known song from his back catalogue by the name of ‘Are You Ready for Love’ catapulted him back into the clubs and into the hearts of a new generation of fans.
But then that’s the most enduring thing about Elton John, the one thing that sets him apart from all of his contemporaries, his ability to adapt, to remain relevant, as happy selling out a 6 month Las Vegas run as he is playing to twenty thousand clubbers in Ibiza, his collaboration with Aussie dance gods Pnau last year showing that he’s as fearless and creative now as he ever has been.
Good people of Bestival we hope you’re as excited as we are to welcome a true musical legend for what promises to be an unbelievable show and a spectacular and fitting close to our tenth year.
